Unfortunately, I had to take the dog back to the shelter. With the cat situation, I worried about the safety of my pets. If the dog did harm any of the cats… that would also mean bad news for the dog herself. Dog was also getting increasingly aggressive about other dogs on our walks. I think she was starting to consider me her territory and was “protecting” me. I wouldn’t want to deal with the repercussions of her harming anyone else’s pets. I did warn the shelter when I returned her, and her profile is now much more descriptive of how she actually is. Really friendly and sweet with people, but she should go to a home with no other pets, especially cats. Maybe she’d be ok in a home that already had another bigger dog and she could settle into the hierarchy.
I may have to get a puppy, or a much younger dog. Which kind of bums me out, I was hoping to be able to save an older dog. But you never know. I think I’ll wait until after my NYC trip in May before seriously looking again. After that I should have the time to dedicate to finding and training a dog that will work better in my home.
I’m still bummed about the pitbull. The first 24 hours after taking her back were really rough. I felt more terrible for HER than myself missing her. Poor thing. I do hope someone adopts her soon. She really was very sweet. Loved to snuggle on the couch!

Sorry about your pup sweets.
Awww, she was such a pretty pup too. I’m sure someone adopted her and she was able to fit right in. It’s just a shame she didn’t work out for you.
After I move to Washington state this summer with my fiance, I am hoping that we will be able to adopt a toy American Eskimo. I’ve researched the breed and I think they’re exactly what I’m looking for, although I know I’ll still have to the *the* right one. It was hard for me to choose whether I wanted a cat or a dog…but I think cats are too independent for me…and my last experience with one was pretty bad. So here’s hoping the dog works out a little better.
That’s such a tough choice to make. I adopted a dog a few years back and for similar reasons (to include the cat), I had to take mine back to the shelter as well.
