I’ve had Sadie for a week now, and it’s going pretty well. She’s had some stand-offs with the cats, but no one seems in any danger. Mostly the cats are scared and letting Sadie know, but Sadie just wants to playyyyy!

Saturday, July 11th, 2009The Adventures of Angela
Saturday, June 6th, 2009I know, it’s been forevers! I guess I needed to stack up many things to actually talk about in order to freakin’ blog.
I went to NYC in May for my birthday! Mucho fun and adventures. Last year when I went, I was a bit timid. I didn’t go see too many things, and I didn’t take a lot of pictures. But this year I decided to embrace my inner tourist and just go wild. Up and out the door every day around 9am, didn’t go back to the apartment I was staying until after midnight usually. I remembered to take the time to sit back and really enjoy myself when I was seeing and doing stuff, but I made sure to keep busy. I took tons of pictures, you can (hopefully) see my NYC gallery on Facebook, it should be public. A few self-photos, which often turned out halfway decent, yay. The iPhone was fantastic for taking pictures and then sending them to people right away to make them jealous. I did some cheesy bus tour things, which were awesome, because I was able to see a bunch of great places in a short amount of time, without having to figure out how to get there! Ate great food every day, rode the subway, got to see my pal Mike Lavoie!
I had also taken a day trip to Philadelphia, to see the Mutter Museum and have a real Philly cheesesteak in Philly. Sadly, the museum did not allow photos. But I assure you, it was my favoritest thing in my entire trip. I even got to ride a train for the first time! I wish we had Amtrak where I live, that was comfortable and convenient.
Dog status.
Saturday, March 21st, 2009She’s still charging at the cats. I brought the dog up to my bro’s to see how she is with my 2 yr old niece. She was great! My niece was a bit scared because she’s kind of a bigger dog, but she was cool after awhile. Dog was like, slurp!
My bro has 2 cats, and she charged at those cats too. They were at least younger and braver and more curious, so they tried getting closer than any of my cats. And the dog would be super super still until they get to a certain point and then she’d try to charge. It’s definitely not a playful thing. =\
So… I will give her a full week. See if she comes around at all. I’m not too hopeful. I did try to convince myself that I could make this work if I keep the dog in the crate when I can’t watch her (if I’m at work or sleeping, or doing stuff upstairs), and keep a close eye on her if I have her loose downstairs. But, I think no matter what, no one will be very happy living like that. Me having the stress of being aware of where the dog is at all times, the dog with being cooped up and restricted. The cats with their general dislike of the dog, and their safety if the dog was able to attack.
At any rate, I’ll do my best with her until Saturday. Give her lots of hugs and long walks and treats and love. When I bring her back, I’ll be sure to tell the shelter that she’s a GREAT dog, but cannot be with cats. And to make sure any potential adopters know that. Besides the cat thing, she really is perfect. But the cat thing is the most important thing to me.
The morning after.
Friday, March 20th, 2009I got a new dog yesterday. Of course the dog pulled the bandage off her paw last night, so I have to take her to a vet to get it replaced right away. First available appointment is 8:40, and I’m suppose to be at work at 8. She’ll probably be getting a cone, for at least the times I can’t keep an eye on her to stop her from bothering the bandage.
I’m not sure I even want to know how much this vet trip will cost… She’s already been a bit expensive, especially when I had to drop $140 on a crate for the house, when I hadn’t planned on having one. The dog was $160.
Other than the bandage, she was pretty good at night. I only heard her whine when I got up to go to the bathroom at one point, I’m sure she heard me get up and move around (she’s downstairs in the crate, bedroom and bathroom are upstairs). She whined earlier in the evening before I went to bed, but I didn’t talk to her or come see her, I don’t want to reward her whining. So I just went about my business. Hopefully it’ll become less and less. She generally seems to like the crate. Just now I had her next to me, but she opted to go in to her little bed.
Oh awesome, I could hear a dog barking outside, and she didnt even flinch! My family’s dog we had a few years ago would have flipped her shit at that. It was nice, my mom came over last night and knocked on the door, and she didn’t bark at all. Yayyyy not a barky dog!
She’s so good in so many ways, I hope the bad stuff (going for the cats, whining a bit much) get better soon. And her poor paw. It looks so pathetic, just the sight of it, and her trying to walk mostly on 3 legs.
My new dog!
Thursday, March 19th, 2009She lunged at one of my cats right away, which worries me. I’ll try to give them more time to get acquainted. The dog’s papers say she’s good with cats, so here’s hoping it works out. I bought a crate for her after the cat incident, for peace of mind when I can’t keep an eye on her during the day at work, or at night. She really seems to like the crate anyway, she went right in and settled in for a snooze. She looked more relaxed once she got in it than she was when I had her laying on a rug in the kitchen for a little bit.
She’s 6 yrs old. Pitbull mix? Shelter dog. I don’t like the name she had, so I’ll be changing it. Not sure what yet. I’ll get to know her more!
